Skewville is an art collective consisting of twin brothers born and raised in Queens, New York. The term Skewville has many meanings, but first it was an actual place, a building inhabited by the twin brothers, Ad and Droo, in 1996. “Skewville” was originally coined for the building’s warped structure, as well as the twins’ crooked sensibility. In some circles, the word “Skewville” now stands for a specific design style, a typeface, and places beyond the original structure. The twin duo is known for its Public Art. They make fake wooden sneakers that they have been tossing over telephones lines and documenting since 1999. Since then, thousands of pairs have been silkscreened on wood and hand-cut, drilled, laced, and then tossed all around the globe. Stay tuned for more coming to a town near you.
