Shepard Fairey is an icon of the contemporary Street Art scene, most famous for his Obey Giant artworks. Born in 1970 in Charleston, South Carolina, Fairey earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1992. As a young adult, he hit the skateboard community hard by pasting home-made stickers everywhere. One of his most famous pieces is the 2008 Hope poster of Barack Obama. He has appeared on The Simpsons and created Black Sabbath’s poster for their final tour. His work is included in the collections at The Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, MoMA, New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, the National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Fairey currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
