Asbestos is an Irish street artist whose moniker is taken from the carcinogenic material that, once identified, is considered an infestation. His work is designed to arrest the passer-by and jolt them out of their daily grind. His triangular constructs are an interpretation of computer-generated forms, based on Delaunay’s Triangulation. His “Lost” series of stickers and posters advertise random missing objects that are lost, but may not need to be found. Asbestos ventured into the medium of ice in 2006, when he, along with D*Face, created ice sculptures at the Ice Hotel in Sweden. He has exhibited at the Carmichael Gallery in Los Angeles, and Banksy invited him to participate in the Cans Festival in May 2008. His last show in Belfast, called Asbestos Boxing Club, focused on portraits of the boxers from Ligoniel Boxing Club, painted onto the flotsam found in the skips (dumpsters) of Belfast.
